After watching Hotel Rwanda

For last few classes, our English class watched a movie named, "Hotel Rwanda". It was a little violent and also sad. It is basically about the time back at 1994, when a country in Africa, Rwanda had genocide or internal war between Tutsi and Hutu. But Hutu had the more power on Tutsi. The main character, Paul who was a hotel manager was Hutu but his wife and childrens were Tutsi. His hotel was the refuge for Tutsi with protection of UN. The story is about how Paul saves his people and over 800,000 Tutsi die. Throughout the movie we could see the war declare being reported through the radio. Also many Tutsi depended on news on radio because that was the only media they could use. There were also reporters from the other country reporting the news on Rwanda to tell other country about the news.
When I was watching the movie, I was really shocked several times. It was like a hell to be in the genocide. It was worse than a war because this genocide was targeted for citizens not the soldiers or army. Why would they fight each other even though they are in a same country? What would make them better? I really couldn't understand. It's pretty similar to the Korean war. We fought each other by being splited in South and North. What benefit did we have after winning? The most shocking part was when Paul and Dube were driving back to their hotel taking supplies. The road was full of dead Tutsi bodies. Over 800,000 died! After watching the movie, I really felt sorry for the Rwanda and I thanked God to make me born in the safe country. I really hope no more genocide or war happen.

Reflection of Hotel Rwanda

Last few English classes, we watched the movie, "Hotel Rwanda". We focused on the media used in the movie. Basically, this is the story of the genocide that happened in Rwanda in 1994. It was a conflict between the Tutsi and Hutu. Tutsi being beatened and killed by Hutu, try to hide in the hotel while the UN comes and help. In the movie, we can see the media being used for the outside of the country for the help. In the movie, reporters from America comes and to gather news and report. So that many people from outside will know about what's happening in the Rwanda. However, when one of the reporter said "I think if people see this footage, they'll say Oh, my God, that's horrible. And then they'll go on eating their dinners" really strucked the main character Paul and me. What is the point of the news if that is all that they think. I think more severe and intense news for the media is needed. Also in the movie, we can see that radio does a big role on the media telling people in the Rwanda about the news. The movie "Hotel Rwanda" gives also a big influence to audience telling about the genocide. We can consider this as media it self as well.
